All Packard Bell desktops and notebooks come preloaded with a recovery partition to allow you to restore the operating system on your computer.

Hi Guys,

You guys may realize me from the Packard Bell Thread. I got a Packard Bell Platinum 1 and replaced the hard drive for a 2GB Compact Flash, the original hard drive was 1.2GB. Now, I tried using my Original Packard Bell Master CD Version: 170580 and the Restore & Recovery Floppy Version 2.2W. When I put the media into the appropriate drive, and boot the computer; it says 'Insert bootable media into the appropriate drive.' It was supposed to go into the Packard Bell Restore Menu, not say this. The original owner I got this computer from, said the he used the Master CD and Restore & Recovery Floppy before, but he was not specific on how he used them. I think I might have the wrong Restore & Recovery Floppy. I might need to get Version 2.3W as said in this thread, http://forums.techguy.org/earlier-v.. I tried a different Master CD for Windows 95 B and it worked and got to the Restore Menu. Only problem is that there is some software on the original Master CD that came with this computer. I have a video link, please take a look and help me out. I never had experienced this before. Thanks Everyone.

FAQ & Answers

  • I definitely know that this could be frustrating, however the USB recovery media can only be created or purchase only for the operating system shipped wiht your computer.

The iso driver maker from Microsoft website is for retail version of windws and will not work for OEM version of windows 8 shipped with your computer.

If you install windows 8.1 using iso image from Microsoft the system may prompt for windows product key.

The product key is electronically stored in the firmware of your mainboard and does not prompt for product key when insatleld using USB recovery media.

The USB recovery media has the Operating System, all the pre-installed Software and the drivers of your system.

The only option is to install windows 8 and update it to windows 8.1 for free using the same product key.

  • Will i be able to use the .iso for windows 10 next month on this computer or will it still need the product key as well?

  • You will be able to upgrade to windows 10 for free using the same product key if use the same OEM version of windows 8 shipped with your computer and upgraded it to windows 8.1

  • Actually.....it may or may not work since you have Windows 8 product key. Microsoft doesn't seem to want anyone using Windows 8. But it would be safer to do what Saranji suggested and wait for windows 10.

  • I looked in to it a little further, and found the link below. According to some folks in that forum, it will now accept Windows 8 OEM key...but previously they would not. That forum is not really official..so I guess you might google to see if you can find more information.

Edit: According to the link below, it will work with Windows 8 OEM or Windows 8.1 OEM product key, doesn't matter. It appears that microsoft changed their policy so that it will now work with Windows 8 OEM key. Uplink hacker elite full version crack patch.
