Watertown, CT, August 29, 2003… Bristol Babcock Inc. introduces the newest member of the ControlWave family of Process Automation Controllers. ControlWave is a flexible Process Automation Control system based on worldwide industry standards for programming and communications. ControlWave combines the best technologies provided by PLC, RTU and DCS architectures into a Hybrid system well suited to process control applications in the energy , water, and wastewater industries. ControlWave Micro now breaks the price/performance barrier for small to mid sized PLC/RTU products and adds significant scalability to the ControlWave family. ControlWave Micro evolves the capabilities of the proven ControlWave into a lower priced, space efficient package required by small to mid- sized applications. ControlWave Micro offers rugged, long-term reliability, wide temperature operation from –40 to +70° C for remote sites and very low power consumption for solar applications. Additionally, ControlWave has been designed to meet CE and U.L. Class I, Div. 2 hazardous location requirements. Bristol Babcock’s expertise in communications and advanced control functionality are leveraged in ControlWave Micro, enabling capability for large or small systems. ControlWave Micro has three serial communication ports and one optional 10/100 Mb Ethernet I/P port. Optional built-in spread spectrum radios and worldwide dial-line modems offer convenient integration and communication flexibility. ControlWave Micro facilitates communication with other devices through widely accepted networks such as TCP/IP Open Modbus, serial Modbus, DF1, CIP, HART and Foundation Fieldbus. For open access to most HMI products, Bristol Babcock offers a flexible, easy to implement OPC Server. And of course, ControlWave Micro comes with the popular Bristol BSAP protocol as a standard feature. The ControlWave Designer programming software supports all five IEC 61131-3 programming languages and is enhanced with a powerful library of ACCOL III process control function blocks allowing the use of a single controller for logic, process control functions, measurement, calculations and data storage. Engineers can also develop their own reusable function blocks, further reducing engineering time and cost. These capabilities are further enhanced with time stamped alarming and historical archive storage within the PLC/RTU itself to provide maximum data integrity. This data is automatically recovered following a communication failure. Bristol Babcock has standard application written for security monitoring, pump and lift station control for water & wastewater market, and flow measurement and metering station control for the natural gas market. The ControlWave family extends the Bristol heritage of technology leadership for highly distributed, high reliability control networks established by the Network 3000 product line with new levels of performance and productivity. ControlWave Designer allows engineers the flexibility to choose the most appropriate controller hardware system without the necessity of learning a new programming language for each platform. The flexibility of IEC61131-3 further allows each manufacturer to augment the basic set of functions with product-specific high-level functions to take maximum advantage of their products’ distinguishing capabilities, yet strictly adhere to the IEC 61131-3 standards.
In addition to the basic functions and function blocks, ControlWave Designer brings the benefit of over twenty years of SCADA and plant control experience in Bristol's ACCOL III function block library. ACCOL III includes over sixty function blocks for use in oil and gas, water and wastewater, and process measurement and control applications.
